An AI photo booth that prints from a receipt printer sounds a little odd at first. The same kind of black-and-white thermal strip you get at a checkout counter, except the picture on it was just retouched by AI. Yet the pairing works surprisingly well. The look is analog, the brains are AI.
A self-service photo booth that fits on one tablet
Receipt Camera® is a self-service photo booth app that prints straight to a receipt printer or a label printer the moment a photo is taken. With one tablet and a printer, any corner of a cafe, a pop-up store, or an event floor becomes a retro black-and-white instant photo studio.
There is no bulky enclosure to build like a traditional unattended photo booth, and no extra hardware to haul in. Adding AI on top opened up a much wider range of what one photo can become.
1. 20 AI photo filters, chosen by the guest
Twenty AI retouching filters can restyle a photo in a few seconds, each with a different mood.
The guest picks, not you. On the capture screen they swipe through samples, pick the style they like, and shoot. No operator has to stand there explaining it.
What matters on your end is the lineup you expose. In the console you can preview every filter and run a test print at no cost, then switch on only the ones that fit your space. Leaving all 20 on just makes guests dither, so trimming it down to three or four keeps the line moving.
People often ask whether style differences even show up in black and white. They show up more clearly, in fact. With color stripped away, contrast and texture come to the front, so a film tone and a high-contrast tone read as visibly different on the printed strip.
2. Build your own AI filter from a sentence
If the built-in filters are not enough, you can make your own. Just describe the style you want in a sentence.
Write something like “a warm film-camera feel with slightly faded color,” and a filter tuned to that description is generated for your venue. A test generation shows you a thumbnail first, and you only add it to the guest list when you are happy with it. If it misses, refine the sentence and generate again.
That test generation is not free either. Each run deducts 1 AI credit, so it is cheaper to write a specific description up front than to mash the button until something looks right.
It gives you a signature filter no other venue has, and you can keep changing it to match a store concept or a seasonal event.
3. AI moving photos (AI Profile): a print in hand, a clip on the phone
An AI-retouched photo can be turned into a short 2-second loop clip. Inside the app the feature is called AI Profile, designed so the result can be used directly as a messenger profile video (think KakaoTalk). It only works on a photo taken in AI capture mode.
The way it reaches the guest is the fun part. They walk away with the black-and-white print in hand, and scan a QR code on their phone to receive a boomerang-style clip that loops back and forth. That QR can be printed composited onto the same paper as the photo, or cut out separately as its own 15mm square. The print and the digital piece each do their own job.
This flows naturally into promotion for you. A moving clip posts better than a still, whether on social or as a profile video, and the post a guest shares becomes content for your venue. It lands especially well at high-volume event photo booths like weddings, parties, and festivals.
A single still photo can take on this many different looks once AI retouching is applied.
This one is not free either. Each generation deducts 9 credits for the clip itself, plus one credit for every AI-retouched shot it uses (10 credits minimum). That is far more than an AI-retouched capture (1 credit), so it is worth saving for a special moment or event rather than using on every shot. The photo-download QR needed to deliver the clip turns on automatically with AI Profile, and it works without an Extended subscription. See the pricing table below for the exact numbers.
4. Live filters and camera control, tuned to the venue on the spot
Lighting and mood differ from one venue to the next. A sunny cafe window is not a dim, backlit wedding hall. Receipt Camera® lets you adjust the capture settings on the spot to match whatever the venue throws at you.
Live filters adjust the color of the live preview before the shot, not just after. Pick from 8 presets (original, AUTO, black and white, high contrast, film, soft, backlit) or build your own house tone with 6 sliders for brightness, contrast, saturation, temperature, gamma, and vignette. The moment you let go of a slider it saves, and that same tone carries through to the print.
Camera settings adjust the same way. Set exposure automatically (-100 to 100) or manually on supported devices (shutter, ISO), and dial in zoom, focus, white balance, and flicker reduction for stripes caused by flickering lights. Capture ratio has 14 options too, from square 1:1 through widescreen 16:9 to portrait 9:16, so you can match whatever the print is meant for that day.
If the first three features are about fun, this one is about tuning that fun to the room you are actually in. Set it up once, and after that a guest only has to press the shutter.
Wrap the whole print in your brand
On its own, an AI filter just makes a photo prettier. Tied to branding, it does a different job.
You can place a store logo and text at the top and bottom of the print, wrap the photo in a frame, or dress up the intro screen before capture to match your venue. Add the QR that sends the original and the moving photo to the guest’s phone, and what they carry off is not a single photo but a memory of your place.
Tips for operators
Start with a signature filter. The 20 built-in filters are the same at every venue. Put your interior tone or a signature menu color into a sentence, make one house filter, and that alone becomes a reason to visit.
Lead with moving photos at events. For a one-day event like a wedding or a pop-up, the photo is the record. The print goes home with the guest and the moving photo spreads on social, so one capture does double duty.
Show fewer filters. Too many choices means a longer line. Trim to three or four and rotate them by season.
What the AI features actually cost
Short answer: the AI features are not free. Installing the app and basic capture are free, but AI retouching, custom filters, and AI Profile are metered separately from any subscription, drawing down credits as you use them.
Credit cost per use
- 1 AI-retouched capture = 1 credit
- 1 custom-filter test generation = 1 credit
- 1 AI Profile (moving photo) = 9 credits for the clip, plus 1 credit per AI-retouched shot it uses (10 credits minimum)
Free credits
- Registering your device for the first time grants 20 free credits.
- Free credits cap at 1,000 and do not roll over. Extended subscribers get refilled to 1,000 every month.
- If your balance hits 0, the photo prints without AI retouching. On a device without a paid license, that original also prints with a watermark.
Credit pack pricing
You buy credit packs of 100 to 10,000 through in-app purchase. They never expire and never disappear.
| Credits | Regular price | Extended subscriber price (30% off) |
|---|---|---|
| 100 (Starter) | $7.99 | $5.59 |
| 500 | $29.99 | $20.99 |
| 1,000 | $49.99 | $34.99 |
| 2,000 | $89.99 | $62.99 |
| 3,000 (Best value) | $119.99 | $83.99 |
| 5,000 | $179.99 | $125.99 |
| 10,000 (Lowest unit price) | $299.99 | $209.99 |
Extended subscribers get 30% off every credit pack, plus 1,000 free credits refilled every month. The more a venue leans on the AI features, the more that Extended subscription pays for itself.
While you use the app for free, a watermark prints alongside the photo. A PRO subscription or a perpetual license removes it so only your store name remains. That license cost is separate from AI credit spend.
